I Keep That Thang On Me: My Go To EDC Film Camera.

For those that know me and follow me, I am a medium format shooter. That means most of the camera I use are not “EDC — Every Day Carry” friendly and certainly not ready at a moment’s notice. No, for my EDC it needs to be small, portable and easy to use so that means a 35mm camera or a small digital one. I am going to break this article down into two sections, EDC film camera and EDC digital camera. These are the ones I use, there are of course many to choose from but I will go over why I like what I use and what I look for in a camera. I would be very interested to hear what everyone else’s take is and what they use as their EDC camera.

Film Camera: Olympus 35RC

This camera is one of my favorite cameras to use. Its small, portable and is very simple in its operation. It’s an old 35mm rangefinder that is easy to focus and features a very nice full automatic mode that won’t let you take the picture if the selected shutter speed will not result in a available aperture to expose the photo properly. Of course, you can shoot it manually. It also features a FlashMatic system that allows you to use a manual flash with a PC cable. The camera has a guide number setting you set based on the guide number of your flash. Once you do that, just turn the flash on and set your shutter speed and it will adjust the aperture accordingly for the correct exposure. Another nice thing about the flash on this camera is that it will sync to any shutter speed due to the leaf shutter lens. The camera is easy to load with film and the film advanced arm is smooth. But the real star of this camera is its 42mm f/2.8 lens. Its sharp, by using an advanced 5-element deign which is far more superior in what you will find an many 35mm point and shoot cameras.
